| Description: | Paul Hindemith's polyphonic cycle, Ludus Tonalis, was written for piano; however, it lends itself to a much broader, instrumental potential. It was an exciting challenge to try deciphering a ‘two-dimensional” piano score, transforming it into a full-fledged orchestral arrangement; plus, the project was completely opposite of a pianist's usual stint—turning symphonic works into piano reductions. In some cases, I had to employ “imaginary” instruments and instrument groups to fulfill the contemporary score's demanding structural requirements. Since the Roland XP-50 synthesizer is fairly limited in terms of producing natural instrument sounds, I tried to compensate by way of artistic interpretation. | |
