Description :
| Muse Stew Live at the Zeitgeist Gallery was recorded on May 9, 2004. The concert featured original compositions by bassist Scott Samenfeld and trumpeter Mark Mullins. Muse Stew combines elements from Jazz traditions with spices from Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, West African and other rhythmic traditions to create a unique musical expression. One of the tunes featured on this CD is "Foucault's Pendulum", a piece that begins with a 4 part fugue that was inspired by Umberto Eco's novel of the same name. "Right after I finished the book I walked to the corner store - about a 10 minute walk - and by the time I returned home this 4 part fugue was playing in my head" related Scott Samenfeld, the tunes composer. "The piece expresses the climax of the story where all of the secret societies converge in this museum in Paris in search of the same secret document. The climax of the story was so exciting that it had to come out in a tune." The CD also features 3 new compositions by trumpeter Mark Mullins including the Monkish "Kartafenlagerhaus". |
