| Der Plan Thurnwalds, an der Kaiserin-Augusta-Fluß-Expedition (Deutsche Neu-Guinea-Expedition) des Museums für Völkerkunde Berlin teilzunehmen, wurde nicht verwirklicht. Vgl. die Sammlung Kaiserin-Augusta-Fluß-Expedition (Deutsche Neu-Guinea-Expedition), die ausschließlich von A. Roesicke aufgenommen wurde. Tagebuchnotizen vorhanden (vgl. Melk-Koch 1989). Thurnwalds Walzensammlung gelangte nach dem Krieg erst 1922 nach Berlin (Melk-Koch 1989). In JB 1924/25:12 steht: "Mehrere Hundert Walzen wurden durch Galvanisieren vor dem Verderben durch Schimmel gerettet, darunter die ungemein wertvolle Sammlung von Prof. Dr. Thurnwald vom Augustafluß (Neuguinea)." |
